The Access Group and Shopmobility will be supporting Purple Tuesday on 13th November with a stand in the Arndale Centre, thanks to the invitation from Bill Plumridge, The Centre Manager. Some of the major stores are taking part Marks and Spencer, Sainburys, Argos and ASDA.
Nearly one in every five people in the UK has a disability or impairment, and over half of households have a connection to someone with a disability. Their collective spending power – the Purple Pound – is worth £249 billion to the UK economy and Purple Tuesday is to make customer-facing businesses more aware of these opportunities and challenges and inspire them to make changes to improve the disabled customer experience over the long term.
It is an opportunity for businesses to show they really welcome and value disabled customers by providing a service that all customers with or without disability will be keen to repeat again and again.
A successful and enjoyable Purple Tuesday experience will set the scene for Disabled Access Day on March 16th next year where retailers will be joined by service providers of all types including leisure, transportation and professional in embracing the whole concept of equality for all. Opportunities for customers showing reluctance to experience something possibly for the first time will be presented with an inclusive service accommodating everyone.
