Purple Tuesday 12 November 10am to 4pm in The Beacon

Events on 1 Oct , 2019
We are delighted the Beacon retailers are supporting ‘Purple Tuesday’ 2019, taking place on 12 November at the Beacon centre in Eastbourne. Purple Tuesday promotes the estimated £2.25 trillion global spending power of disabled people and their families. This unique event calls on all organizations to make changes to improve the customer experience for disabled people. Purple Tuesday has been developed by disability organization Purple; which works with businesses to improve the customer experience for disabled people.
Last year, the first ever Purple Tuesday was a huge success nationally, with over 1,500 pledges to make concrete changes and improve the customer experience for disabled people. This included commitments such as: staff training, digital audits, better signage and training of frontline staff in basic British sign language. Becoming dementia friendly can also greatly benefit a retailer, while having accessible loos very much influences a customer’s impression of a business. Purple Tuesday has gathered support from over 750 businesses across the UK.

The Beacon centre staff have signed up along with Inclusive Eastbourne and Eastbourne Access group, who are working with other local disability groups.  There will be stands outside River Island on the day. Beacon staff have made a commitment to undertake disability awareness training. Other town centre businesses are urged to sign up to Purple Tuesday and to make a commitment to improving access for disabled customers as well as their carers and families.
